Effect of Calcination Temperature on the Structural and Electrochemical Behaviour of Li-Based Cathode for Intermediate-Temperature SOFC Application

A new strategy to reduce the operating temperature of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) is needed foster progress developing high-performance and stable SOFC as a solution thermal stress degradation components induced by high-temperature SOFC. The use lithium (Li) cathode can increase cell’s efficiency, it allows for faster ion transport higher reaction rate. This study presents an attractive approach using Li-based combining Li with cobalt (Co) form LiCo0.6Sr0.4O2 (LCSO). In this work, precursor consisting Li, Co, strontium (Sr) was prepared via glycine-nitrate combustion method. calcined at two different calcination temperatures (800 900 °C) prior ink formulation symmetrical fabrication in order effect on structural electrochemical behaviour cathode. LCSO powder characterised X-ray crystallography (XRD) determine crystal structure composition developed LCSO. performance fabricated tested impedance spectroscopy (EIS) obtain resistance information, which related ionic electronic conductivity. SDC electrolyte 800 °C has crystallinity percentage more porous compared °C. enhanced cell, where highest conductivity (0.038 Scm−1) lowest activation energy (0.43 eV). also able achieve 2.89 Ω cm2 area-specific (ASR) temperature. conclusion, promising material applications. result benefit field research, especially development intermediate temperature-SOFC.
